Today's Chatpat: September 17th, 2023

1. The 60kg gold scam is getting interesting. The foreign guy, Mr. Dawa seems to be suffering from memory loss and can't seem to remember his messages to the mostly Maoist political leaders and their near and dear ones. He also seems to forget the messages he sent or received in his WhatsApp. The company which was registered to import the brake pads is reported to have imported such stuff more than 100 times so far. If this is true, then the value of gold smuggled through the TIA could hit more than US$ 1 billion. The company was registered in the name of a daily wage laborer.

2. India has won the Asia Cup cricket tournament by beating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets. This was more than a thrashing because Sri Lanka managed to score only 50 runs and were all out by 15.2 overs. The Indians managed to beat the target in 6.1 overs. Maybe, India should just withdraw from the Asia Cup in the future so that we may also get a chance to get into the Super Four in the near future.

3. The Nepal Medical Assocation (NMA) has halted all medical services except emergency care across the country today. The NMA had called a nation-wide strike today to protest against the attacks on medical professionals at a hospital in Hetauda recently. The NMA has given the government a 72-hour ultimatum to take action against those involved in the attack.

4. Nepal Police has arrested a 23-year-old person for the murder of four people at a saw-mill in Tinkune. According to media reports, the accused had a beef with a 20-year-old worker at the saw-mill due to a motorcycle accident earlier. A security guard, his wife and mother were also murdered as well in this incident. Let's hope that Nepal Police will be able solve the Nirmala Panta case soon as they have done with this case. It is surprising that when higher-ups are involved, the Police fail to come up with suspects and can't solve such cases for years.

5. According to government reports more than US$1 billion remittance was received in the past month. Millions of migrant workers do send more than US$ 10 billion remittance per year and if it weren't for them, Nepal would have been a failed state a decade ago.
