I always questioned the intention of GP Koirala about conducting election of CA and didn't expect the CA election to be held this soon and this peacefully. I am happy to be wrong and apologize to all who whole heartedly believe that the election will be held.

I wish to be wrong about future of New Nepal that the leaders have promised to make. I still doubt their intention. I will be happy to be wrong again.

I will be happy again too if you are wrong again.

And Nepali, it seems that you are always wrong.
I did not doubt about GP's ability. I like about him is he takes a very strong approach and I believe that he does what he speaks and speaks what he does. It's always good when we speak our inner conscience-which is also called "bramha". I like GP as he voices his inner conscience.

I saw/read him fighting against King when there was protest for democracy and he staged protest till he fainted in scorching heat. That day, I truly believed that this is man who is required for New Nepal.

I am sure he will die soon (which I do not wish) but leaving beside the most cherished freedoms to Nepalese people, and a ever lasting republic Nepal.

Let God bless all Members of CA to make Nepal a prosperous republic!

It takes courage to do what you did and I commend you. I believe we might have run into each other on a couple of threads and even though I may not have agreed with everything you said, I have come to respect your thoughtful and objective insights. On a tangential note, another person who embodies the same trait, and who I  have often differed with but come to greatly respect is Isolated Freak.

The fact that the CA elections were held and they were by and large peaceful (with notable but minor exceptions) is a good sign that the Nepali people are capable of fixing the mess in the country. The future cannot be foretold, but I think the trend line looks better now than any time in the recent past.

What I have also found whenever I am in Nepal, and especially outside Kathmandu, is that people are much more optimistic about the country's future than many people in the Valley and on Sajha. We are still a long ways away from a stable and functional political system and a healthy economy but we have just taken one step forward, a huge step in my opinion, in that direction.

Dear friends, I am glad I was wrong too. 3 months ago I was in Nepal, the Nepal, I had never seen before. It was a whole mess. No petrol, no cooking gas, no water, no law and order. I couldn't even ho my home town in Tarai due to the unrest. All 'Pahadi' were moving out from Tarai. I give all credits to Mr G P Koirala.

But........ he is not my favorate person. This situation was created by him right after 2046. Nepali congress had 2/3 majority and he dismiss the government and call for mid-term election. After that our peacefual country satrated becoming one of the un-peaceful country. That led to a birth of Terrorist party  called 'Maobadi'. and Prachanda, head of the terrorist.

I don't know, when do we nepalese get an honest person who can lead the country and respected by all.

Anyway, I just want to stop here. Hope everybody accepts the result and we will enter into a new era, and our country becomes become a peaceful country as of 2046 or before. good luck Nepal.

 

I think Bishal ji, This is the problem with developing democracy in developing/least developed and undeveloped nation. If we see situation in India, Pakistan, bangladesh and Srilanka around, there is nothing perfect.

Particularly in India, When Indira Gandhi was PM, she almost became like dictator, pushed very radical socialist agendas, imposed overnight emergency when court declared her election as invalid. She pushed so many leaders behiend jail in the same fashion as King G did last time and she also dissolved parliament when she had full majority and still some years to complete her term.

Why, I am pressing this fact here is despite these, Indiara gandhi in India is regarded as a very revolutionary but democratic leader that India has witnessed. Plus, what I believe is Girija babu could become a semi-dictator kind of man but "more or less" he took the path of democracy.
Again in developing democracy around, all have gone through tough times. I hope we have crossed that one.

Vices and virtues are like two sides of a coin and I believe at this point, his contribution to Nepal leads over his vices-as everyone "more or less" has some vices with him.

While GPK can be credited for the CA elections to happen peacefully and on the third anticipateddate (after the first and second dates failed to see CA elections), he can also equally becritisized, along with other leaders of different political parties, for significantly failingto lead the country towards prosperity, peace, and stability. GPK and the NC under him had theirshare to run the country after restoration of Democracy in Nepal in 1990, but what they didwas merely nothing in the country's benefit; GPK's recent political carrer is highlighted by the Controversial Mahakali treaty, infamous Lauda deal, Arun deals among others. Baburam and Prachanda gave birth to Maoism during the NC's tenure. GPK rejected the proposal submittedby the high level Nepal Police team on the Maoists in 1996 in Rukum (when Maoism had justtaken birth and were limited to only Rukum, Rolpa, and the surrounding areas) that some development plans and employment oppurtunities be taken to the remote Maoist-active areasto divert people into some thing constructive or else the Maoism would spread like a forest fire, but no initiative was taken by GPK and as a result the Maoism became the # 1problem of the country and still remians to be the same. Many corrupt leaders like Khum Bahadurand others have remained in his government. However, he's also done some good things likefighting for the people's rights during JA II and now is one of the responsible peoplefor the CA election to make a success. Just my little insight about GPK; both good and bad points; nevertheless, he is saint ascompared to Prachanda terrorists!I am also happy to be wrong that the CA elections happend quite fairly and peacefullywith some minor exceptions.Jay Nepal.

I am also a deshbhakta like you and Nepali like you. And somewhere, I am also happy that the election did not cause the death of many innocent people as we initially thought. I think, it went well not because of the GPK or anyone, it went well because people of Nepal who have been craving for peace from a long long time, went to the polling booth, hoping that this election will pave path towards peace and prosperity. We, Nepali, often tend to get emotional about any happenings, I guess, many threads above reflects such sentiment, including yours. And in the past such sentiment is exploited by our pinhead political leaders. We now need to be more objective and analytical than being just sentimental. Not to mention, we still have the same leaders who do not want to lead the country rather intend to rule the country for their own sake. We have seen the coalition government of seven parties. rather than leading the country, they spent all the time ruling the country. Price hike, scarcity, absence of law and order, crime and insecurity what they awarded to the innocent people of Nepal. Please correct me if I am wrong.  Many decisions were taken without consent of Nepalese people in the name of Loktantra. So, it will be premature to draw any conclusion on their intention only on the basis of CA Election Day.

 

Even though, I am not that optimistic about political outcome of CA, what makes me happy is, we NEPALESE still are the peace loving people and irrespective of political system, be panchayet or after panchayet, we were/are always a democratic. The participation of Nepalese people in CA election reflects this fact more than anything. Lot more will also depend on how Maoist will adapt themselves in the new system. While I do not think their political leadership has strong vision, but I equally feel for those under/uneducated people from rural area who were lollypoped by their leaders. So it will be tough task for the political leadership to address problems faced particularly by rural people. Otherwise this might just be end of one and start of another battle.

 

Now of course, balls again in the court of political parties and international key players.

I am not sure if this election was held in a timely manner after the signing of historic peace accord in November 2006 which has been postponed at least one time before. Nevertheless, it's an auspicious day for all Nepalese that this event took place.

As Girija was chosen to head the Interim Government, it falls under his job duties to make this happen. He might have just met or might have even exceeded the people's expectation. Now Girija along with prominent leaders since the Jana Andolan days of 1990 are pretty guaranteed to die natural deaths before long their surviving family members pounce upon the loots they accumulated during their respective rules. No wonder Girija felt it was one of the happiest days of his life. I am certain other former supreme leaders in command must have felt the same.

No matter who emerges as the victor of this election it is imperative that rules of law is re-established and abided by,  a  democratic society is raised and path to peace and economic prosperity is adopted.

That's all I have in my wish-list for now.
