Doctors perform angioplasty on Crown Prince Paras

KATHMANDU, Sept 6 - Doctors have performed angioplasty on Crown Prince Paras shortly after he was rushed to the Norvic - Escorts International Hospital at Thapathali in the capital late Thursday morning after he complained of chest pains.

He was admitted to the hospital at around 11:30 am.

Doctors attending him have said he suffered a mild heart attack.

King Gyanendra and Queen Komal also reached the hospital to inquire about CP Paras' condition.

He is being attended by a medical team led by consultant cardiologist Dr Bharat Rawat.

According to a doctor of the hospital, CP Paras' lower artery was blocked leading to the "mild heart attack."

"He will have to stay in the hospital under constant medical supervision for five days including two days in the Intensive Care Unit," sources said.

Doctors attending him have also diagnosed him with high cholesterol, and moderately high blood pressure.

Norvic Hospital physician Dr Shyam Bahadur Pandey and Dr Kishore Rana had decided shift Prince Paras to the Norvic Hospital after they were called to Prince Paras's residence at the Nirmal Niwas as he complained of chest pains.

At a press conference in the hospital today, Dr Pandey said that the Crown Prince is out of danger and will have to remain in hospital for five days including next two days in ICU.

Dr Pandey added that he also diagnosed him with high cholosterol and moderately high blood pressure.

"He will have to change his food habit and lifestyle to keep the blood pressure and cholesterol level normal," he added.
Security has been tightened around the hospital.

The prince is expected to be in hospital for some days
Nepal's Crown Prince Paras has been taken to hospital after suffering what doctors say is a mild heart attack.
He underwent an angioplasty operation in Kathmandu's Norvic hospital and is "much better", the hospital says.

Crown Prince Paras is a controversial and unpopular figure who has been at the centre of a number of scandals.

He is the only son of King Gyanendra. A constituent assembly due to be elected in November is to decide whether the monarchy should be abolished.

Intensive care

Doctors attending the crown prince say that the mild heart attack was "genetic in nature" and caused blood circulation problems in the lower portion of his heart.

Dr Bharat Rawat who led a team of 12 doctors said a "balloon angioplasty" was successfully conducted on Thursday afternoon.

"The Crown Prince will be kept at the intensive care unit for two days and will be shifted to general ward thereafter. Now his condition is much better," Dr Rawat said.

A team of cardiologists and physicians rushed to the prince's residence after he complained of chest pains.

Shortly afterwards, the 36-year-old prince was admitted to a military hospital, which later transferred him to the private Norvic hospital, where the angioplasty was performed.

Dr Rawat said the operation took 50 minutes.

Doctors say Nepal's royal family has a history of heart problems, also seen in late kings Mahendra and his father Tribhuvan.

Many other patients have been admitted on the same day of heart attack to Gangalal Hospital. Let paras go to hell. Let`s think of them who cannot afford for treatment.

I am not a fan of Paras or the Monarchy but it's a pity to see a person in his thirties get a heart attack.

I only hope he listens to Dr Panday's advise and changes his lifestyle. Maybe this will be a life-changing experience for him. Or maybe not given past experience. This might also be a good moment for him to pause and reflect on his life and decide what he wants to do next. But, like Thapap says, what do I know :O (and Paras is prolly not going to be checking Sajha from his hospital bed anyways to listen to my advise )

You know, most of your leaders carry a desease like HIV. Look sitaulaa, prachande, sujaataa, oli, b bhandaari, dewbaa so on, you name it dude. most of them are suffering from cronic desease. so they are not being able to judge properly about the national matter. Giving a citizenship to Bihaari, no sign of developements of the country. no transparancy. no law and order, no justice......
