Any devotees out there?

Trance music to me is the epitome of an open mind with the sophistication of vibrancy and energy. I have been listening to it for over 15+ years now - relax I am in my 30's - and it just keeps getting better. Trance also tends to transcend a form of lifestyle, and not necessarily having to spend weekends in Ibiza. There is absolutely nothing like turning up the volume and feeling the moment - the moment of positive melodic vibes and emotions. It has all the elements that make music desirable, and the ability to turn any genre into trance through remixes and synthesizers. I listen to it every opportunity I get. If you have not heard of trance before please be impartial in the way you think of non traditional music - give it a bit of sprititual twist, the places you may hang out for friday night drinks or when you are working out and need the extra encouragement - the official definition is ' temporal altered state of consciousness'.

It is quite rare to find ppl from Nepal listening to it - most probably due to the fact that they never had an opportunity to get to know what trance music really is. Another reason could be that it is not mainstream lyricial music such as pop, rock and R&B. I understand from friends though that KTM has a couple of awesome trance night clubs. Oh and if you grew up in the US, Europe or Australia - I am almost positive you have come across it. I would love to hear from you if you are a fan. Below is a few random samples you might enjoy (ensure the volume is slightly higher, or use noise reduction ear plugs).

-JB

A little bit more about this great music.

I have had the opportunity to meet some like minded folks and swap some really great tunes over the years - and along the way I have run into almost any genre remixed with trance vibes. This literally includes instrumental tunes from all over, including classical music of europe, tribal drums of africa, hawaiian ukelele, vocal tunes and ambience of ibiza, latin congo drums, sitar and tabla of goa india, etc.

Needless to say there are hundreds of trance artists, both DJs and singers, from each of these countries with an endless flair for creativeness. I never get bored listening to it because of the immense availability of variety. Waiting for a nepali artist to remix some of the great songs of nepathya and 1974 - oh what a joy that would be!

Whenever I visit sajha I will try to share a different genre and/or artist each time. Here is a random classical collection - the first one is 'Symphony No 40' and second, 'Marriage of Figaro' - both by Mozart. I never used to listen to classical music the way I do now. Enjoy!

JavaBeans,
I don't consider myself a devotee, but listen to trance every so often. True trance gets you really pumped up and on Monday mornings it really complements my coffee. A friend of mine makes very nice collections and has been putting them online for some years. For those of you who want to experiment with progressive trance, here's a link:

Awesome!

I am happy to see that this music is oozing vibes.  1974AD and Narayan Gopal remix was good given it's the first time hearing nepali trance remix. I might just have to email DJ Tantrik to remix a few of Nepathya's classics. You think he would do it?

I was just thinking how to categorize the songs I am about to upload. Before I do though just want to share with you a bit of background on how I was introduced to this great music. Hope I won't bore you - everyone has love for their music - and I suppose this is mine. You can skip the story if you like and go right to the music.

Story starts--->

I was about 13 when I first heard Depeche Mode's 'Taking a Ride with My Best Friend' single at a friend's party. That was amongst the many 80's music we listened to - but what struck me was the use of synthesizers and the lyrics. It was just different to many of the usual pop and rock songs playing in MTV. During a junior high dance - none of these bands - ZZ Top, NWA, Bryan Adams, Madonna did a thing for me - but broke my legs dancing with New Order's 'Bizarre Love Triangle' on the background!

I still hadn't appreciated their work until I was a sophomore in high school. It just happens that a fellow classmate in my PE class was also into this kind of music, and he was much more knowledgeable than I was. Back then we used to call it 'new wave' or electronica. Trance hadn't evolved then. One day, he handed over two cassette tapes to me - one for Depeche Mode and the other for New Order. To me, those two gifts are one of the most two precious gifts I have ever received.  These two bands pretty much shaped my adolescence - without a doubt, I am their world's #1 fan. As I got older, I played them often and was fortunate enough to hear them at a variety of venues I visited during college, night out, etc.

<---Story ends.

Trance is sort of like a 'DuPont commercial', which goes something like 'we don't make the things you buy, we just make them better!' And when I say trance I mean all the sub genres, including synth pop, house, etc. I agree that a few songs sound good on their own, but most tunes are better when remixed. And there is absolutely no discrimination when it comes to the type of songs being re-tuned. An example is the classical tune above - in fact, classical music has had a huge influence in trance.

As every good song or poetry has notable lyrics, most trance remixes are phenomenal in the way they portray emotion - tragic loss of love, survival, drug abuse, romantic devotion, temptation, addiction, love for life, joy of friends, denial, passion, blind ambition, etc. If Edgar Allan Poe was alive I think he would greatly express his famous melancholy poem, The Raven, through trance music. In the same way, The Raven or any good movie is open to interpretations, many trance lyrics - especially from New Order and Depeche Mode, have hidden messages. The groups have never revealed their true intentions and I do not think they ever will, similar to other well known popular bands. We can only assume what they are trying to say.

So, the lyrics or the tune is all that is really needed to appreciate this music - you can ignore the visual effects and images if you wish. And rather than inundate you with all the New Order and Depeche Mode classics at once - I will try and alternate between them with the new ones.

The first class1ic is 'Bizarre Love Triangle' by New Order and the second one, 'Enjoy the Silence' by Depeche Mode. The full lyrics are absent on the latter one but you can easily find it. As before, turn the volume a bit higher with decent speakers or noise reduction headsets.

Sajha seems a bit uninteresting these days - doesn't it?

Despair not, I am about to put up a couple more of this great music...

The first one is Human (Armin van Buuren Remix) by The Killers, and the second is 747 by Kent. The latter was originally alternative rock, but they synthed it to give that trance feeling - slow dance with your partner on this song is just awesome!

I love trance too! I think drum and bass, house are good genres as well. You're right in that there are few nep folks out there who enjoy trance.  I think trance is appreciated more in Europe and Aus. Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren are some of my favorites. :)

One other thing, I disapprove when Americans confuse trance with techno.

Side-stepping and dancing my way through the elevators, escalators and the airport lounges... and oh sometimes carelessy in the shower with the ambient beats pulsating through my ear canals - the world just seems that much more interesting.

Couldn't agree with you more there jadedkt -  although in San Fran I didn't have much problems with people in agreeing that trance is distinct from techno. And in Melbourne where I am currently based the awareness is much better and the laid back persona blends in quite well. Would love to check out europe some day. What's your collection like and where are you based?

Andain is an awesome artist...her voice is very addictive and tantalizing to say the least...she makes me feel powerless. I first noticed her work through Tiesto's in Search of Sunrise series (although I think the mix was Gabriel and Dresdens). Here it is - the first one is Beautiful Things (from the link above) and the second, Summer Calling:

Nice tracks novaguy83 - absolutely love it!

For the sake of making it easier to scroll through the songs I am going to combine your tracks into one post. In the future, please post them this way. Cheers.

Illuminating, mesmerizing, epic! Is it a love tragedy? Is it love lost? Is it jealousy and rage?  I have been trying to figure this out for the past 10 years...JFK...Marilyn...Jackie O...help!

These two sentences do it for me: "...there was too many ways that you could kill someone...like in a love affair, when the love is gone..."

An intellect as you are...let out our creative thinking skills...shout when you have reached a point of lucidity on what this song might mean to you, and most importantly share your thoughts with the rest of us!

Here it is...1963 by New Order (the second one is a remixed companion tune to the original first):

Quite the time lag...You're right on Andain, JavaBeans.  Andain's voice really complements trance, you could never tell she was singing live in that video. Off the top of my head, I'm stuck on Paul Van dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Armin,  Tiesto (duh!), Dirty South, Gabriel and Dresden (only like their remixes) amongst many. I think Tiesto's in search of sunrise is a great album, can't say the same for his new album.

Good stuff jadedkt...great to hear from you.

Another classic below from the world of New Order: Run. Dunno about you but this song always reminds me of what's most important in life: family and friends.

Interesting lyric: "...you work your way to the top of the world and you break your life in two...". Oh, never a philosophic pretense...so New Order style!

And modern house music below - would dance to this for 3 days straight...absolutely sick!

Get out of your comfort zone once in a blue moon and play. But play only in your terms...knowing opponents is wisdom...knowing the self is enlightenment. Here we come FIFA World Cup 2010:
