Seeing fully grown beard all over my face, people usually confuse me with Muslims. I have no problem with that. But an incident happened today.. A white man asked me if I was a Muslim. With smile, I revealed I was a Hindu. He made funny face and he said " Whatever you are, you don't respect women....". I think he could hardly know the difference between Hindu and Muslim. For him all brown faces looks the same. But I wanted to defend Hindu. So i asked, "how could you prove that? have you done any study before making that statement?" He didn't speak another word. Whether he didn't know anything about Hindu or he didn't want to talk to me anymore, he just walked away. I didn't bother following him either. However, in my opinion, his statement wasn't not completly wrong.
There lots of Muslim rules that proves disrespect to women. But why would anybody who has studied and knows Hindu (Nepalese), think that we don't respect women? Did the man made that his statement ignorantly or he knew about us? Have your say......

Do (some) males behave that way coz we (females) allow males to be sexist? Hell no!

Slavery existed for a long time. Would you say the slaves allowed themselves to be treated that way? They fought and fought and finally change came. We females are slowly realizing it and fighting for our rights. Wonder how many females will be killed in the name of "boksi" or witches before we are treated half the way we should be treated?

Just throwing some points there. Feel free to disagree!

Following reasons proves Nepalese society a Sexixt:
1. not letting women in the house during monthly period is the worst proof of Nepales society a Sexist. Not letting her touch other person, most of food, in a temple, isolaing in community for at least 4 or 5 days and lots of other restrictions. Even worse example can be seen west nepal where a young girls is kept alone in a "goth" far away from her for god knows how many days during her mentural cycle.
2. forcing women to call her husband "pati parmeshwor" even though he beats her every evening and still she has to touch his feet the very next morning
3. killing of fetus when found its a girl. ( a rearch showed that there is a possibilty of a demographic and cultural problem in south indian region in 25 years due to number of girls far more less than that of boys)
4. still not letting women be a single mum ( i wonder if its allowed by law now. i suppose Mum, now, can give her child her surname. please varify this).
5. a widow not allowed by society to get married again.
6. accusing single, old, helpless women of being a witch (bokshi).
7. expecting a wife be a good house wife and taking care of house and family
8. parents still producing handfull of daughters expecting a son and having mentality that "if you don't have a son, who would tourch parent's dead body?"
please add more if you can think more....
