Just so you all know, Sachindra Nepal, the cab driver who was arrested for raping an 18-year-old girl in Ocean City, Maryland, was found guilty on ALL 5 accounts of rape and sexual assault yesterday in court. He is now in a State prison and will be deported back to Nepal as soon as possible as part of his sentence. And to all of you who thought the "ocean city sluts" were to blame for this matter, well, let's thank God that the jury did NOT agree with you.

I give up. Sympathy for a rapist just because he is a Nepali. You guys are trying dream up all sort of excuses because he is from the same country as you? Eastsidaz, You seem to think that what he does was not serious enough, and simply throwing out of the country is a punishment enough. But I guess me and many other people disagree. What's stopping him from doing the same thing - say back in Nepal? You'd like to have him deported to where? Also your pathetic arguments trying to justify his actions don't make any sense? How can she resist ? She was intoxicated. We are going in circles. You seem to imply (read your arguments carefully), that he didn't rape her, because she was drunk. You seem to argue here that drunk girls are fair game. Well many people will disagree with you. Having sex with a girl - drunk or sober- without her consent is wrong. And that is rape. I was not getting emotional, I was just getting a sarcastic. Pray tell me why the girl should share the blame? AbsolutelyObsolete, so you think getting drunk is a strictly male pregorative? Girls can't get drunk at all? So anytime you get drunk, next day when you wake up, you start thinking of joining AA or rehab? Don't you think that's a bit of a double standard? BTW girls do rape drunk men as well (It happens more frequently than you can imagine). In vast majority of these cases, men don't report it as what happened inflates their ego :-). Check out that recent case in Norway where a girl was convicted of raping a drunk man. Things are changing. cheers

Brat! I do own some Anheuser Busch stocks. Therefore I pray that more people should not just drink but drink profusely. But here is the catch: One should drink responsibly and according to the law of the land. To start with, one should not drink if he/she is under 21. If you meet the legal requirement, you should cover all the loop holes that could get you in trouble. The thing is if that accuser is at fault, then she should be impeccable before she criticizing the next person. As you used the very caustic word double-standard on me, judge for yourself how appropriately you used it if I am going to respond to you this way. I never exclusively said only men should drink. As for joining a rehab, that is more important to people who go through uninvited consequences or health conditions that refrain them from drinking. The mantra is: drink responsibly and get drunk only when you have a trust-worthy companion or a savior. Amen???

huh, it's not sympathy for a rapist,,but just to get the point that "you cannot be clapping with one hand". If the girl dont go around flashing herself,,no one in sane mind (unless he is a real psycho pervert) would go and do such a thing.. Anyway what could they do in NAtalie Hollowy case,,wasnt it a similar one.,,in fact worser,,She was drunk and had sex with those guy,,probably,,and they never even found her,,Who is to blame?? THere was a radio talkshow where the host broadcasted what the listeners had to say on the case,,,Majority of them had nothing to say but that she was a party girl( sl*t ),,well what else do they look for on a spring break.. Well I guess it's just good to be careful about what you do than to go around blaming others,,Of course the guy did sth,,But well if you knock off a girl one night with her agreement and next day she files a case against you,,Bad luck ,,,

GwachAquarian, if you have it you flaunt it, if you don't have it you don't flaunt it. You would be a perfect fit to live in medieval place like Saudi Arabia where they put their women in Burka - covered from head to toe, no flashing ergo no sexual molestation - case closed eh ? What are you doing there in the west? You sound a bit chauvinist to me. cheers brat

i said i am NOT trying to say Nepali people are bad. you completely missed my point. there are no bad ethnicities, just bad people. the girl is very private about the case. it's my brother who was staying with her at the beach. i just know that she was very intoxicated, and woke up in a hotel room in her own vomit and in pain from the rape. she also said she knows she was raped. keep in mind she isn't doing this for attention or publicity. her name has been kept private.

thank you cerine... i only posted this information because there was a large thread about it on this site a while back, when sachindra was first arrested. there are lots of rapists, and victims, of all races. i didn't want this to be a race issue... or a sexist one. it's just a tragedy. but a lot of people seem to have a lot of angry opinions, it breaks my heart.

Jenna! I think you should open a ABC liquor shop in front of the accuser's (your friend) house if she is not going to check herself in the rehab so that she can drink in the safety of her home and you could keep an eye on her to keep her safe from masculine harms while she safely closes the house-door behind her on her way back from the shop. LOL!

Cerine! Actually Jenna was trying to make a point and she came pretty close to that. But everytime you try to support her but you cannot come up with a good reasoning and therefore you kinda end-up making it appear like a sexist issue. People never forget the objective about why Sajha Blogosphere was put together in the first place. If you have forgotten then browse over to the top left corner of this page and you will notice a caption reflecting it’s little mission statement. It reads as: " Sajha.com Bring together Nepali Communities " You people are using this platform to drag Nepalese into the mire just to exacerbate the situation. We all know that Sachindra is as guilty as one can be; no doubt about that and he is duely going to be punished. His family and relatives (who are Nepalese) have been punished too though they are innocent. Therefore we should try to make it easy for them if not for Sachindra. But you girls seem to be plainly supporting the accuser. Guess what this is a Nepalese case not a friend or foe’s. I do not know this Sachindra guy but he is a Nepali. Again you guys seem to stray away from the fact the accuser could have been more responsible and she did break the law by involving herself in underage drinking and (perhaps a few more counts of crimes for which one needs a lawyer’s eyes to see them clearly). That's all. Please unite the Nepalese in this platform not divide.

it is very important to have forums that help unite cultures. just don't insult the other ones. i hope that if the girl was nepali everyone would feel the same way. if the rapist was white, i know i would be just as angry. and yes it is a shame she is so drunk. underage drinking is most certainly a problem. in the u.s., we restrict it to 21 years of age and older, which just seems to exacerbate the problem. you know, "forbidden fruit" etc. i just hope you understand that my brother, the victim, and her family... none of them are against nepalese or any other culture.

no one is breaking the unity. everyone involved is at fault in little or big amount whatever applies. no one knows the situation clearly except those party involved...and everyone is free to comment as well. it's a sensitive topic... this is just bringing the topic in light rather than pointing fingers at who is at fault more. Both parties involved are at fault ..and they both are paying the price. it's also true that people are more likely to blame the victim too...i am not saying she is not to blame either. she cud have done things to prevent things from happening..but that doesn't mean that just because jenna here is pointing out that the guy is at fault doesn't mean she is trying to break the unity among nepalese. Just coz you are one race or whatever junk doesn't mean u have support bad activities either. ex.. just because girl is drunk doesn't mean that the guy who is a driver..his profession had to do act unprofessional. but real world is real world and people should be extra careful in everything they do in every case. whatever i don't care .. world is piece a crap anyway

Rape, Assault Charges Against Resort Cabbie A Nepalese cab driver was arrested in Ocean City in August after he escorted a visibly intoxicated female passenger to a resort hotel and sexually assaulted her several weeks earlier. Ocean City Police arrested Sachindra Nepal, 25, after an extensive investigation revealed he had sexually assaulted a female fare in a resort hotel room in mid-July. According to reports, the victim was heavily intoxicated at an uptown restaurant after getting separated from her friends at a party. Restaurant employees flagged down a taxi for the victim who was “conscious, but unresponsive.†The cabbie, Nepal, took the victim to Ocean Pines, where she reportedly lived, but brought her back to Ocean City when she could not tell him where she lived. According to investigators, the cab driver went to an Ocean City hotel room where he sexual relations with the incoherent victim. Source: The Dispatch

if you read that... she got separated from her friends. she was waiting for them to meet her at a bagel shop, and store employees put her in a cab. yes it was poor judgement for her to get so drunk on any given night, but all this ridiculous blaming is really.. well, ridiculous

jennalinne, I have been a silent reader of this topic(thread) for a long time. But even after reading ALL your posts, I just don't get the point you are trying to make. What exactly are you trying to prove? P.S Would you be kind enough to tell the readers what your nationality is ( I know there is a thing called privacy but I think knowing your nationality will help the readers better understand your comments)

the initial point of posting the verdict was to inform. back when sachindra was first arrested, there was large speculation about the situation on this forum, and since i was made aware of the conviction result immediately after it happened, i thought i should post them to follow-up. there have been many points made my many people's opinions throughout this thread though. which i guess is good, that people care about such a serious situation, one way or another. my ethnicity is mediterranian-- greek, italian, german. i live in america.
