Most of you already know what happened with him last month. There are various angles to comment. But at this time he needs help. Chicagoland nepali pariwar is co-ordinating the fund raiser- www.cnpariwar.org which has a pay-pal link
Shiva has been in languishing in jail for a month and meanwhile, not much has happened. Due to his being in a ward where he was not permitted to call out for over two weeks, as a result of which his phone connection was disabled, he was unable to contact me until last weekend after the connection was restored. He is understandably apprehensive of his November 10th arraignment and, rather unhelpfully, his Public Defender has not been in touch with him or available for some time. It appears imperative that outside counsel has to be retained and soon.
Unfortunately, our fundraising has stalled at about $5,500, an amount inadequate to retain credible legal services. He has asked me to send a special appeal to his friends to help him in his hour of need. Before anyone gets the impression that this is an appeal for funds to be used for his prolonged legal expenses, let me clarify that the intention is to get a current one-time resolution in his case that positions him to continue the case on his own. I will not go into the options or the possible legal ramifications here but suffice it to say that retaining qualified counsel is the best way to help him at this time. He realizes that and stresses it repeatedly in his calls to me.
I think it is time for his friends and countrymen to step up.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As some people may think he is a doctor and might have lots of money. This is not true.Dr Acharya is from Padampur Chitwan and went through a big struggle in his career. He has always remain simple and his ultimate aim was to do something for the nation and Chitwan. He had just completed his 1st year of Internal medicine in St John hospital in Chicago. Recently had gone through an intense personal stress and was very depressed and was not in a state to act normal. That is the main reason for this incident and anybody can realize that no normal person does what he did.

Why don't you start a thread to help contribute family of Keith Brown who was killed in the incident ? His family is more of a victim than Dr. Acharya.

Isn't it better to serve in jail in US than in Nepal? I heard the jail condition in Nepal is really really worse. How does money help Mr Acharya at this point? If he is in Nepal, you think the Nepali goverment will pardon him? Also, how long you think he will have to serve in jail if he is convicted? I am not very clear for what purpose you are fundraising for him?

In past I stayed at Evanston-Chicago for 8 months and I have about 20 Nepali friends in and around Evanston-Loyola area.
Yesterday I called couple of family (they are Doctors residing at Evanston) and asked about this fund raising program from Nepali Community of Chicago. They were not aware about it.
Please remember http://www.cnpariwar.org/ belongs to all nepali and not Dorendra (Narshingh) Rana and his puppets. By meeting bunch of people they can't represent spirit of whole Nepali who are residing at Chicago.
As mention by other folks, I am ready to contribute some money to Keith Brown family if someone initiate.

Stat bro,
The first thing u need to do is stop barking here in sajha.
If you really think that we all need to help that doctor ( as u are lobbying for fundraising to him) tell us if u really donate some $$$ to him. Post the copy of the credit card transaction ( which is available online and u dont have to post ur account no & real name) that u used to make donation. And if u post it, the tranaction should have the date before this posting was made........
This will show that u do support that doctor and did donate some $$$ for him. It will also encourage other people to donate hhim. But if you have not made any donation then STOP BARKING IMMEDIATELY IN SUPPORT OF THAT DOCTOR.

I am against the notion that Nepalis should help other Nepalis no matter what the deal is. I am against it. Of course we need to help fellow Nepalis when they are in dire need of help but not when some dude just hits another dude, and RUNS. No, no, no. We Nepalis are better than that. Dr. Shiva Acharya is in a shitty position. Totally agree with that, but he could have avoided it. I'm pretty sure had he not run from the scene of crime, things would have taken a different turn. But helping him financially to defend himself is just not my cup of tea. Lastly, my thoughts and prayers go to Mr Keith Brown's family and friends. May his soul rest in peace !!

The same mentality of Neopatism and Favoritism that has destroyed our country, and now here we are in a foreign land that follows law and order, we're supposed to help a criminal in the name of "another Nepali". Given a chance, we'll make US into Nepali within days. Please grow up, the guy commited crime and some idot have the oddasity to come here to ask for help. Wow....

oddasity or audacity??? confused rewire bro. anyway this thread completely is nonsense. it does not make any sense. whatever he did and no matter in what situation....... iluding police already makes one felony count. second he is charged with first degree or second degree i dont know what it is. then again he flees the scene. so just think as a human being. u can make 1 mistake in a day which would be pardone. but three in a same day. so before donating some money just think what you are about to do. u r trying to save a criminal. lets take an example of that stupid teenager who is just 17 killing our fellow citizen ashok bhattarai. should he be pardoned just coz he is a minor. if you think so lets raise money for that black guy. NO OFFENSE. accidents happens, mistake happens but this is crime.

Hey rtdin,
Do you mind introducing yourself with your real name? Why on earth you create a thread with such name "rtdin" when you are asking for a help here. You have to be real for the real purpose. So, you know what I mean ??

FU(K YOUR CNP( Group of Chicago Nepali Pathetics) n Dr. Acharya.
If I were a prosecuter of the state where he's been imprisoned, I would've asked Judge to rule a Death Penalty.
REMEMBER: An eye for an eye, A life for a life.
Rot in Hell now.

I took too much time and read many posts about Acharya. I suggest those guys who has direct connection to Acharya to tell him show his good behaviour inside the big house. Doing so might help get him out early and can serve Nepal (if he really is such person as said in the beginning of the thread). I have sympathy for his family but this is the law. May God give them enough strength to tackle this situation.

Here i am upset again!! there is nodoubt he did felony but it is also true that he has to face law. These prejudiced comments made me serious ,at least ppl could have thought good of him but why not??There is no reason to donate for a person's sake but it is my own personal feeling as we cannot donate for all those who commits crime and has to face prosecution or whatever..
PPL are prejudiced here becoz they think he commited crime ecosz of his pride ,i am upset again, there is no sympathy in ppl's heart. It is not goood!!

Everyone makes mistakes in life. Until you are or have been in that man's shoe, your comments do not hold much weight. Nobody wanted to help this man, I understand that based on the severity of what he did. However, some of you commented that he should "rot in hell" for this accident. Well, he committed suicide couple days ago and is no more. I hope you are all happy.
