Dharma is a concept that is not found in English vocabulary. It is definitely not religion. If a person has not understood dharma then the life that is led is that of a mere animal. That is what is missing in Nepal right now, because its education is deficient and influenced by the West. I know because I was also a victim of the system but managed to get out of enslavement that was designed a couple of centuries ago in India. After finding the path to enlightenment, I have started seriously study of dharma. I listend to more than 50 Upanishads over the past five years, and understood the foundation of our culture. I hope some of you will also start your spiritual path. Here is an excerpt from the reading for today.

Take an example. People used to celebrate sacrificial rites (yajnas) in ancient times, and they sacrificed animals (pasus) in these rites. But the animal is only a symbol. It was not the dumb creature that had to be cut to pieces. The animal leads a life of sacrifice, even without its career being completed at the sacrificial pole! The animal that has to be disemboweled and offered is different.
In the spiritual vocabulary, animal means “the bodyconsciousness”, “the I-consciousness”, and this is what has to be slaughtered. The Lord is known as Pasupathi or Govinda. Pasupathi means the Lord of all individuals (jivas), pasu meaning individual; and govinda means the guardian of cows or individuals, “go” meaning individual. The tending of cows is a symbolic play of Krishna to indicate His mission of tending individuals. The skriptures (sastras) have profound inner meanings. The aim of dharma is to make the individual (jiva) give up attachment to external nature and the illusion that it causes and to make it realize its reality or rather, unrealize what it has now taken as real so that it may stand revealed in its genuine identity.

Dharma is an act of doing right thing. Dharma is also an act that causes social and communal agitation/turmoil.

DP is right "Act of doing right" Quenching thrust to living things is the dharma of water and so on, It's explained by learned Sanskrit scholar. Similar philosophy may be in other social and culture around the world. But it was not explained and practiced rather manipulated for many reasons.
When people started pleasing rulers they started layers of rules and layers so they can be controlled by local level to rulers level and the value and norm of Dharma different direction.
Going to Temple, Church and Mosque become the part of Dharma. Doing right thing is being ethical. Now most unethical people go to Temple, church or Mosque to clean their sin.

In Hinduism your sin can be cleaned only by you but in Christianity they believe and preach " come to Christ, he will take your sin away" That is a fucked up message to people.

Once I have read a essay by Jyotirya Basu " धार्मिकता से नैतिकता कि ओर" : bottom line is powerful people so called god were doing many unethical things and in different situation they twist and turn to make their saying right. Example: You see Putin a dictator who is bombing Ukraine.

In present situation : Dharma is not doing right thing rather showing off.

So, in essence, we get to understand that whatever the world has placed in place as dharma is not the real deal, It is a part of a temporal world and an illusion. The only true dharma is the atmic-dharma, which is eternal and applicable to all the humanity.

In essence, dharma is living in truth and acting with love. As a social animal, a human's dharma is to act in the best interest of the society, not his own personal interest.

Dharma in practice is to live in God consciousness, or universal consciousness. Standing up for justice and good or the majority is also dharma. Satwik is dharma, tamasic is adharma. Anything done in narrow self-interest is adharma. Living in untruth is adharma. So basically Dharma is living in truth and love because it benefits everyone.

Todays lesson for me is linked here if you wish to spend 5 minutes reading it. Most of it is quote from the book with my comment in red at the end. Click here.

I want to hear your perception on my act.
I went hunting this Saturday. I shot a deer and some ducks. I really had nice party with the friends with whisky and deer meet.
On Sunday morning, I went to राजधानी मन्दीर and did some पूजा. I also donated some money to Saint Jude Children's hospital.
भनुस न अब मैले पाप गरे कि धर्म ?

You don’t need Dharma to do the right things. You do the right things because you are a good person. You don’t need to be “profiled” as dharmic for that.

Today's excerpt:
Those who hold the physical objective world as the all of life and the body as the Self lead wasted lives, live as meaningless as making God into stone. Making the stone into God is the holier, more wholesome task. So too, seeing divine duty (Atma-dharma) in an act transforms it into an act of worship, elevates it, and removes its binding characteristic. Performing the duties of worldly life with no regard to genuine practice of the law of truth (sathyadharma) is as unholy as treating God as stone.

To answer some questions you have raised, to understand dharma better, we have to understand that there are three characters (gunas) that define the levels of a soul. The Satwik guna is the pure, and lives in dharmic behaviour, while the rajasik and tamasik quality gunas are living in delusion of the material world, attached and bonded. You should be able to think for yourself whether you are doing something in Atmic consciousness or not. Any act in itself cannot be dharmic or not. For instance, if you are a satwik soul dedicated to fight for Dharma against asura forces, Like Rama killing Ravana was a dharma because it was in the larger benefit of the world.

So are you eating meat for your sensual pleasure or maybe you killed a menacing tiger and also eating its meat? Eating of meat signifies suffering to animals killed if it was for your own happiness. That is why the first advice given to anyone who wants to choose a spiritual path is to become vegetarian.

About driving a car, again is it good for the world or only for your convenience. Do you absolutely need to drive your own car or maybe public transportation could be used. Given the climate change and the danger it is causing to the life on Earth, are you helping to solve the problem or contributing to it?

Donating money, visiting a temple or donating money to any cause does not in itself constitute dharma. it is in the intension and the reason you are doing them. If you connect to your Atma, then visiting temple is not necessary, and when you act without understanding and embracing divine consciousness nothing can be called dharma, let alone killing a deer to have fun with your friends. When the soul is elevated, the whole world becomes your family, and you see divine presence in everything, animals or any object. The whole of creation of divine so you will feel oneness with everyone, and like the shastra teaches, बशुधैब कुटुम्बकम् the world is your family, and you pray for happiness or all the beings: समस्त लोकः सुखिनो भवन्तु।

UJL,
What is the relation or correlation of dharma and a public transportation?
He/she may ask another question: a married man is making love to his wife (getting and giving pleasure) is dharma or not? If it is dharma then if he fucks other women wouldn't be dharma too?

I remember my profession saying " Don't bullshit to bullshit / for bullshit" when he was asking question which was not relevant to the subject.

What is the relation or correlation of dharma and a public transportation? who the fck told you it is not relevant to the subject?
Also trying to know if he practices what he reads also only reads and don’t practice?
If he eats meat then advocate of animal can give him death punishment for killing animals or contributing to killing animals and so is climate advocates for him driving car or taking transportation which all can be done in the name of getting justice to those who are victims of his actions which according to him is Dharma
