This is not about statehood. Prashant is an ethnic Nepali and regardless of the country or state he lives in, he should be proud of his ethnicity. And the Topi he is wearing is pride of ethnic Nepalese, from the hills I must add.
For centuries, Nepalese have been residing in Darjeeling for once it was also under Nepalese territory. They still speak Nepalese and well aware of their cultural and ethnical identity. Darjeeling has given us Gopal Yonjan, Aruna Lama, Ambar Gurung, Indra B. Rai and now Prashant. But once again, this isn't about the political boundaries that sets us apart. We should show our humility towards Prashant instead of calling him Indian and alienating him.
