Pushpa Kamal Dahal aka Prachanda, a leader of CPN Maoist became the first Prime Minister of Republic Nepal, beating his rival, former three time PM Sher B Deuba of Nepali Congress. PM Dahal who feels proud to be called Prachanda, is being supported by major parties like UML, Madheshi Forum and 22 minor parties.

It will be interesting to follow the PM closely for his developmental plans and executions for benefit of Nepal, his maintenence of relationship with oppurtunistic political parties, India (who basically dominant economic and political player Nepal) and possibly US and China. We will keep watching power hungry, Nepal Congress's potential moves to break this fragile coaliation and lead this current govt. into failure and come back to power. 

I wish success for this current govt and spend much time for the overall development of Nepal, rather than just clinging into power.

Well, the most opportunist political party is the maoist party itself; and has been successful in taking help of any force for its benefit - king, india, congress - and the process continues. I really doubt they will do something remarkable in the development side because they probably have more important political agenda to fulfill.

But anyway, it's good to see a relatively young and energetic person leading the government even though he comes from a background of violence. Lets hope the new team does something that makes everyone happy!!

I will not leave the Koirala family just like that but as GPK is a public figure, I have every right to scrutinize his actions. I am pretty sure Sujata will resurface with the twists and turns in the Nepali politics.

Some random thoughts:

Prachanda has lot to face - Honestly, it would have been better if he did not become a PM.

It will be very difficult to controll prices of commodities as there is global increase in the price.

How long is he going to subsidize oil, when there is global increase in demand and price?

What is going to do with his militia and YCL? The UML has already asked Moaist to disband YCL. Idon't think the current CNC would want Maoist Cadres to be incorporated into Nepal Army.

They talk/preach about equalness but we will watch "how equal they will be", We have already read/heard about their "expensive and executive tastes".

There is growing lawlessness in Nepal- band, hadtal etc. Will Maoists be able to control them or escalate ? How will they manage the NC on the streets now?

I agree with you - all the politicians we have seen are oppurtunistics. Lets see how the Maoists handle nationalistic issues?

Prachanda is likely set an example of visiting China (for said closing ceremony of Olympics), unlike his predecessors, of visting India first.

I AM AFRAID THAT MAOIST GOVERNMENT WILL TRY TO CHANGE THE ARMY STRUCTURE OF NEPAL AND IT WILL BRING THE CONFLICTS IN NEPAL, MAY BE THE REVOLUTION INSIDE ARMY OR BY ARMY ITSELF..

Its not just forum, they have to tackle but the whole Indian leadership. It's been pretty evident that Nepali Govt. can not survive without the blessings of Indians.

I wholeheartedly agree with the above statement. As much as we love to see our PM breaking the trend of visiting India first, we don't want to see another Gynendra in making. Many believe Gynendra's count down started after he proposed China to be SAARC member – against India's will. Prachanda started the confrontation by deciding to visit China first. I don't think it's a wise move.

Now if decisions on state affairs are solely made by the Maoist party, we should probably expect to be moving towards the Vietnamese and North Korean models.
