This makes me proud to be a Xaverian. It's not how nice a car you have. It's how many friends did you give the ride to. Live for God, Lead for Nepal... indeed!
A report from today's Kantipuronline.com:
Govt school students with Xavierian caliber
BY ANJALI SUBEDI
KATHMANDU, May 11 - Though enrolled at Ratna Rajya School, Raju Katawal, 16, is as good as any Xavierian, in studies as well as extracurricular activities.
"Cost-free classes at St Xavier's College gave me and my friends what people from our kind of background would never get otherwise - the capacity and confidence to excel," he said, exhibiting his impressive command of English.
Under Partnership in Education (PIE) program initiated in 2004, some 900 students like Katawal have benefited from quality education delivered at St Xavier's College. Under the program, students from government schools attend classes at St Xavier's for two hours every morning from grade eight through ten.
i like da way nhuchche rote down da things out here.....am not trying to be rude or trying to say dat students from STX are not good.....i bet they are far betta den other students from other schools.....just a note for you broda.....'eutai apple ko rukh ma faleko sabai apple mitho ani rasilo huncha bhanne chiana'......
Xavier is nothing but a rich kids school ... notice that most of the Xaverians (not all) are from wealthy families .. If you are a son of some freaking Neta then you get admission in Xavier ... no offense to those who got into Xavier thru entrance exam
I respect Budha.. they have been giving full scholorships to under privillaged forever. When you compare Budhas with STXs students, you can tell the ghamandi attitude as a difference. And i suppose , it's pretty obvious in Nepali socity who are famouse for the ghamandi attitudes. I know there are lots of smart STX's students and i've met some real nice ones too. However, most students think they are smart if they speak in a language mixed of English and Nepali. They tend to use some phony accent and like to use as much english as they could , whever possible. True evolvement should be on science, maths , technologies nd not competition in English. Why is it that people in Nepal think STX's students have English which is no lesser than any Briton or American. It is not true. If xavirions want to wear the belt of best english users then they should prove it on how they have used the language to acheive the best out of it, and i do not mean to say impressing some old folks in the valley. It's easy to impress old folks in ktm with some english words but to compete in a global field of excellence where language has little value and critical and innovative thinking has more appreciation, it's different folks... I am not making these comments of STX students but some of the folks in Nepal and India who think English is the measure of smartness. Honestly , i have always hated the admission process of STX which gives preference , a big one to the children of those with money and power in the society. No offense to those who entered with fair competition.
These Xavarians are so proud. Just show me one Xavarian who has done good! About fluency in English, they speak like this, " Look look under the rukh muni". I've seen a lot of Xavarians in ASCOL. Only thing is they show off as if sons of billiionaires. They do not care about the government scholarships, or pretend they don't. Because they have access to O level and A Level, SAT and GRE etc. Some are talking about all-round development. Extra-curricular activity? Only thing they have done extra might be the fact that they had already girlfriends from across the street, aka, from St. Mary's. And remember, education does not belong to any one. It's there for those who strive. What I found was these X were neither good at English nor at Nepali, mostly they were average.
Those who criticize STX and their students, show me a weblink that talks about the contribution of your school to Nepalese society. At least we have one news link. It is easy to criticize.
xavierian here too matter of fact the one whos freaken trippin in here u freaken idiots are visitin the site made by a xavierian (if im not wrong san dai is a xavierian too and u tripp in here u foo's?) so dont be hating...no harm intended but if u dont know how to praise dont criticize we nvr said any thin wrong to u guys..so i see no point pullin our legs ....matter of fact take this song from a xavierian 95' stxj batch nirnaya....
But here's one way to tackle it. This is from my experience and observations.
If I, let's say as a manager, am looking to hire someone [in Nepal] for a company to do reliably routine work over a period of time (such as compliance work, accounting, writing development reports, and other such necessary tasks of corporate bureaucracy), I probably would NOT hire an STX grad.
In all likelihood, that hiring would be a mistake; and the STX grad hired for such purposes will probably be miserable soon. This would be a lose-lose situation for all.
If, however, I, let's say, again, as a manager, am looking to hire someone Nepali in Nepal to help my company in areas of, well, product innovation, customer relationship, finding new markets and new customer bases, coming up with new ideas that the company can bet on, then, I would go out of my way to at least interview STX grads.
In all likelihood, the chances of a 'fit' will be higher in this second case.
That's because, on balance, my sense is that STX grads' comparative strengths are in creativity and innovation, areas that require one to deal with uncertainties, and ambiguities, being bold and there's a big chance that one might fail big or flop mightily.
Now, don't get me wrong.
I am NOT saying that ONLY these people are creative and iinovative and the rest are jhoor and khattam. I am NOT saying that.
I am talking perceived about relative strengths, and NOT absolute strengths.
So:
Assuming you are a hiring manager staring at piles of smart resumes from strangers that look and sound and feel alike, to save time, you are better off 'sterotyping' STX grads in this manner . . . and there's a big chance that you are likely to be correct.
Again, just my observations. Please feel free to disagree.
Ok! I went to St Xavier's College. Please note the word COLLEGE in the previous sentence. I had a good time there. Everything there was cool except for the teachers. Are you seriously trying to tell me that recently the quality of teachers there is awesome? "The students are receiving Xavierian style education!!" wth...
Some retard Dhoti mathematician (no more VT there!) is probably telling them to memorize everything. We had shitty teachers. The only teachers worth mentioning were BDB, IPS and DB.
I appreciate the idea though!
And I don't think one could just say that Xavierians have awesome English. There were some who had almost perfect scores in SAT and there were some with 1100 because they managed to get 350 in Verbal. So I wouldn't generalize anything. I know that there were some ghamandi people. But then they were like that before they came to St Xavier's.
The greatest thing about St Xavier's to me was that I met late Fr Watrin there. And he was one of the greatest people I have ever met.
So please stop with the discussion on St Xavier's. It makes me sick. Those who went there had a great time and those who didn't probably had a great time at their own school. I would still say that it is one of the best colleges in Nepal just based on the fact that when I studied there were 4500 applicants with minimum of around 75-80% in SLC and only only 350 out of them got selected.
However, there are a lot of other colleges that are very good as well. Also, what may be good for you may not be the same. St Xav was a nice place to go for me but some people might not like the experience.
AND A REQUEST TO ALL XAVIERIANS - PLEASE STOP WITH THIS ST XAVIER'S THREAD (WHETHER YOU WENT TO SCHOOL OR COLLEGE).
