let the man be x,
x is an international student in texas..he's been working in a gas station for 3 yrs on cash..he also had to cash checks there..once a check for $1000 bounced..every now and then he would play scratch offs..his boss has a video cd of him doing so..now his boss is telling him that if he doesnt pay him that $1000 for the checks then he would report him to lotto comission, his university and citizenship and immigration department and use that video cd as a proof..x doesnt have that much money...now x doesnt know what to do..what should he do? can his boss really put him in trouble? should he risk his life and career and rest assured that his boss wont report him..because if he does he would also get in trouble for hiring illegally..??

Hey bro,
I believe that you cashed that check following the guidelines set by your owner. I am amazed how cheap ass your owner is; to make an employee pay for such losses.
You can play lottery as long as you pay for it. The owner can prosecute you if you are shown in the video playing lottery without paying, because that would be stealing. The owner won't report you to lottery commission because you played lottery. He is just scaring you, neither he will report to INS. He shouldn't be hiring you illegally in the first place. He will be in trouble by doing so.
Bottomline: Just ignore him and look for another job. He doesn't respect his employee.

thank you sanju and furke dai for suggestions..the procedures were followed exactly and 100s of checks have been cashed successfully..the boss is so cheap that he is now torturing x..the amount for lottery was paid but after a few minutes when x was done playing a few..so it may look like he didnt pay..x came here with a lot of dreams and now really regretting what he did..x doesnt know much people here or much about the laws..so he is scared..what if the boss is ready to bear anything that happens to him but deport x anyhow? :(

take a chill pill bro
like people have said, look for another job. he is too cheap. i dont support and encourage this but looking at his dhoti attitude, put some cash in your pocket....make sure you dont get caught. that cash if for punitive damage for pain and suffering :)
he will have to go to jail and pay fine if he hires people on cash.
the best thing to do is, look for naother job but dont let the owner know about it. tell him that you will pay his money when you get some money from a friend that owes you. after the job is confirmed, dont inform him just dont show up or pick up call from your former boss.
last but not the least, get out of the gas station world and go to a university, get good grades and do internships that will pave way for jobs once you graduate.

It's a no-win situation for both of you, especially you. But no point bitching. Try to make peace and leave in good terms. Afterall, in the event that he reported you to DHS, you might be barred from entering the US upon your arrival at POE and in that instance, nobody's going to go after him for hiring you illegally.
I know it doesn't sound fair but that's life. You worked for him illegally because you were in a desperate situation. If this situation called for mere justice, I'd have urged you to try confronting him but you're set to lose more than gain. You'll earn 50 times more in the long run. Let the prick have his way for now. It's just a thousand bucks - that's like what? 2 weeks paycheck? Not a small sum by any means but the consequences might be far more devastating.
Good luck!

Some of the boss are bastards, they can do anything so be littel carefull. If you want to scare him, talk to lawyer take advice, they give free advice. And tell the lawyer to call your boss and ask not to bother anymore, may be lawyer willcharge you some 100 or less.
If boss give that video to police and complain about your stealing which that video may prove. The police will come after you and if they put in jail for one night also, the record will be for every which may hamper in ur future.
so take it seriously and solve it without going to cop.
best of luck

please you do not scare from these bullshits . go find another job. Since you were working on cash he dont have any record of your employment . he is just scaring you . Just ignore his fone calls. Police dont take these kind of shit since you havent done any crime . USCIS will not be looking any individual CD send by a person in mail. Lottery Commision will start investigating your boss first and might call the police for hiring illegal workers on cash and letting them to play lottery. thanks
