Why Prachanda seems to be the smartest of them all?
KP Oli has lost miserably in Jhapa-5. I guess, his daam-shaam danda-bhet or whatever we call it here, didn't work this time. When you have your ego up your kidneys, then this was bound to happen. Oli's political career is now over. The CPN-UML should now move on and get rid of the Oli faction from tomorrow and start again if it wants to be relevant in Nepali politics.
The Congressis thought that their Congress 2.0 version would win back some crowds while keeping their loyal voters intact, and well, I guess it couldn't pull any new voters but its core base is still intact but Gagan Thapa has lost as well. So, we can say that both Nepali Congress and UML will get more seats from the PR system than expected and will still cause some disruption in the new House in the coming days.
Now, let us talk about the story of the day. Prachanda has won from Rukum East-1. This is the man who started the so-called uncivil war 30 years ago, after submitting the 40-point demand to then PM Sher Bahadur Deuba. A decade-long conflict, where 17,000 lives were lost for no reason except to one day bring back home the Maoists to loot us more openly.
Prachanda and his crew got the chance to lead the government in 2008. And instead of trying to become a Mandela, he became more like the Mandaley from the Panchey days. He thought he could take on the Nepal Army and screw it up and become another Kim from North Korea. It did not happen.
In two decades, the Maoists party is almost dead and has had no choice but to partner with other disgruntled communists to form another party, and the most they will win is probably 7 or less seats from the FPTP and another 7 if they pass the threshold in the PR thing.
Prachanda is now boasting around town that he is the only former Prime Minister to save his arse. Well, he is right but he has been saving his face in the past three elections by being a 'tourist' candidate. In 2008, he won from both Rolpa and Kirtipur. In 2013, he lost from Kirtipur and almost lost from Siraha, winning by a measly 900 votes, and that too by paying off some folks from the other party. In 2017, he won from Chitwan because he knew he would lose from anywhere else. In 2022, He won from Gorkha just because Baburam, his 'Robin' from the earlier days, decided to let go of his throne and give this guy another chance to be relevant.
Maybe, the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) should hire him as the Tourism Ambassador instead, and he can promote Rukum to the world. This man did nothing for Rukum and Rolpa, the region where it all began for the Maoists, in the past two decades, but he still thinks the country needs him more than ever.
Prachanda's daughter lost from Chitwan and she be like, 'I did so much for this place and the voters betrayed me'. Well, I think blame Daddy instead. If Prachanda wanted his legacy whatever it is or will be, to be carried forward by Renu then she should have stood up for election from Rukum and the Comrade should have just packed his bags and shipped his buttocks to Noida, his former safe haven and spend his days, maybe working on his memoir or something.
We will know the final results once we get all the PR votes counted. It looks RSP could get a two-third majority, or a few seats less for that but RSP is probably the only party so far to receive more than 50% of the votes be it the FPTP or the PR thing ever. The old scums have never even crossed 35% of the popular vote in their past except I think when Congress got like 38% popular votes back in the 1959 election.
We will talk about RSP after all the results are out. I guess we all did enjoy the Nepal Political League (NPL) 2026 season. Balen has done it. He has defeated Oli in his own home turf. It took a 35-year old to destroy 35-years of monopoly of the old political parties. We hope, we will see better days. And if not, we can again decide in another 5 years but I think they will do good and we will finally become a country for the young ones and not only for old corrupt men and their lackeys!
