Please read this supportive article. this is in the home page of sajha or belows link. As Harvard Senior to Raise $20,000 for Laptops for Nepali Children..

http://sajha.com/sajha/html/newsdetail.cfm?itemid=902

My View:

their idea is perfect but the way they are using the amount is not good. there are many children in nepal who are not in school, even they are not getting primary education. This is beyond the reach of the people of Nepal. Rather than distributing laptops, why not we or the collector build the another schools in the remote area.

My Calculation:

$ 20000.00 is nepali rupees 16 lakhs. from which we can build two schools in different locations using local manual labour in remote area which will more fruitful.

What About Them? See the picture below and Decide.

I do not think pkr Boston is criticizing the idea - he was just proposing a Plan B.

pkr boston,

I hear you. Distributing 100 laptops will not help to educate the entire country -rather only few will be benefit. Does that mean we do not take step like this at all ? No.

I do not even know Shailesh Munankarmi. He contacted us and we appreciated his idea, dedication, will to raise such a large amount and enthusiasm. Hence, we decided to help and provide him a platform so that he will be able to fulfill his wish. Shailesh is working very hard to collect the amount. Let me tell you, he is just a student who work very hard. My personal intention of writitng that note was to "influence other people to follow Shailesh's example". Just imagine, if every body, does something to his/her ex school or village or Tole - how much effect it will have on people's lives and country !!

Here is an example from a Nepali (Prof Shiva Gautam) in the Boston area how we can help:

http://www.poafoundation.org/press_releases/e-infrastructure_pilot_project_launched_for_nepali_schools_by_north_american_nrn_members.html

Now, your idea of building schools -

a great and noble idea !! Building schools in every village is a must. But Help Nepal is not yet fully armed to take such long term projects. Erecting a Building for a school is not a problem, but running a school needs long term committment, dedication and resources. The management of teachers, administrative staff and overall maintenance of school is quite not possible. We hope, we together will attain that too. If you have better idea, how to run a school let us know.

However, Help Nepal has helped repairing, renovating around 14 school in Nepal.

Check this link:

http://helpnepal.net/about/project_details.php

In fact, we just received a request from another school for repair. I urge you to get involved in this project. Help Nepal will provide the ready-made platform for fundraising and management in Nepal (we are proud to tell you that we have no overhead cost and has managed around 100000$ for administrative revolving fund). Probably, you will better appreciate the hard work that Shailesh Munankarmi is putting. Shoot me an email at mabi.singh@gmail.com

Help Nepal though, has some project that are long term projects like Mugu Help Post.

Dear readers,

I would like to thanks for the upper comments, and especially THANK-YOU for Mr. Mabi Singh. I really appreciate the hard work of the student Sailesh (hope he will get success) and really proud of Prof. Shiva Gautam and like to give congratulation for his success.

I have also one dream it may be sucess or not, but its my future plan. I will like to share with all.

We have many children in city or in remote villages who cannot go to there play school. Either their parents cannot effort or they are been taken by their parents to their work. Those children plays with stones and clays on their parents working area. I beleive that most of the children in nepal they goes to school from the age of 6 if they are lucky. Mostly it happens because of the upper problem. Can it be fruitful if we build them play school ? It will help the kids to learn something before there schools and the next important things is there parents could do more works and get more money for them.

CHUZOM, BHUTAN - MARCH 26: Nepali children play next to a bulldozer while their mothers are busy working on a road widening project March 26, 2008 in Chuzom, Bhutan. Tens of thousands of migrant workers, mostly Indians do the hard manual labor jobs that Bhutanese shun such as building roads and construction. Bhutan is the smallest country in the region, with 600,000 citizens and lacks the manpower for the blue collar jobs. The small mountain nation situated in the Himalayas between China and India, is in the midst of a political transition to becoming the world's newest democracy ending more than 100 years of royal rule. From Getty Images.

I choose these project because i heard about many project and plan for schools but few for nursery or play schools.

Mr. Mabi Singh, i wrote this here rather then in your mail because i will like to share with other viewers also.

Thanks again.

pkr_ boston,

Very good thought but we will not limit your good thoughts that would bring changes in children's life, in thoughts and dreams alone. You will prove that you can do it and hopefully start taking steps to fulfill it. It's a huge task and we should start with your own village/tole or district.

We need to weigh in some theoritically and practically feasible matters though.

You can always use Help Nepal's resources whenever/ however you need so you will not have to waste time in building the infrastructure as it is already set up.

I thought this could be a interesting read for you:

CWIN, http://www.cwin.org.np/ , has been working on issue like that you have pointed out for a long time.

As far as I know, the street children still persist, as you have expressed beautifully - and not much has been achieved despite spending a lot on them.

Why don't you come out with a better protocol and we will try to work on them.

I have heard that those kids tell you straight on your face - "You are making $$ because of us"

Giving Back to Nepal

Help Nepal would like to thank all the individuals who love Nepal , Sajha dot com, Nepalisite dot com and Nepalipost dot com for their help to a student's effort(Shailesh Munankarmi) , which yield two e-libraries. Good Job Shailesh - photos can be viewed at http://gallery.meronepalma.com/hennelibrary/

Again, Help Nepal Network, US Inc. [a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization] is dedicated to providing health and education to the needy communities in Nepal and respond to emergency needs during natural disasters. By focusing our energy on the two fundamental problems of Nepal, we believe that we can bring about positive changes over time. You can help us make this happen. This time, HeNN USA is focusing on two efforts. One, we are working with three runners Bijay Ghimire, Ishwar Khatiwada (HeNN-USA member), and Ujwal Shrestha to raise funds for Namje School Scholarship Fund to support twenty needy students complete their high school in poor community in Namje Nepal. With a taregted goal of $10,000, the fund will provide $500/student for two years. The runners will run one of the toughest course, an uphill race known as Mt. Washington Road Race. Second, we are working with Music4Children (www.music4children.org), a UK based charity to raise funds to complete the Shelter for Conflict Impacted Children(the "CIC Shelter") under construction in Dhulikhel, Nepal. A small group of musicians, touched by the plight of the street children of Nepal, formed the charity Music4Children in 2005 and has been working with Help Nepal Network to build the CIC Shelter to support homeless and orphaned children created by the civil war in Nepal. Donations made here are tax deductible in the US only.

Dear All

Help Nepal Network Australia Sydney organised a Fund Raising Dinner on Saturday 18 July at the NSW Leagues Club Phillip Street, Sydney, as part of its annual International Fund-Raising. This year, the event was organised in partnership with The Centre for Learning and Children’s Right Incorporated (CLCR), a non-profit organisation, which is running Heartland Children’s Academy School in Kathmandu. HeNN Australia will use the proceeds from this year’s event will go towards organising a health camp in Nepal to treat women suffering from uterine prolapsed and The CLCR for School projects.

The Nepalese Ambassador to Australia, Mr Yogendra Dhakal attended the dinner along with Mr Lincoln Hall, a veteran mountaineer who was the Guest Speaker on the occasion. Harsha Gautam highlighted the achievements of HeNN particularly about the projects under taken by HeNN Australia. Anna Richardson stressed the importance of providing quality education to the children of Nepal and The CLCR’s efforts to achieve it.

Mr Lincon Hall’s presentation about climbing of Mt Everest was pretty challenging as well as interesting to the ordinary people who could only dream of. His near death experience on the slopes of Mt Everest reminded everybody about the fragility of human life.

Tara Shrestha presented vote of thanks to all those who put so much of their efforts to make this event a success. This echoed the message of Help Nepal Network and The CLCR. This success is possible only through a collective effort of dedicated volunteers that silently toil for the benefit of a larger community.

Once again, on behalf of Help Nepal Network Australia Sydney Chapter, I would like to sincerely thank all, who came out to support our cause despite of their busy schedules.

A total of A$5560 dollars was raised which will be shared by HeNN and The CLCR

Harsha Gautam
On Behalf of HeNN Australia Sydney Team
